End Calf Roping, “Mutton Bustin’” & Chuckwagon Cruelty at the Manitoba Stampede

Animals risk injury and death as the Manitoba Stampede hosts calf roping, bull riding, mutton busting, bucking bronco events, and even deadly chuckwagon racing.

At rodeo events, bulls are intentionally antagonized before being ridden, and horses used in riding challenges have painful flank straps tightened around their hindquarters to induce them to buck. In calf roping, terrified calves are chased, then lassoed and thrown to the ground, often sustaining injuries to the neck, limbs, and respiratory tract, or even dying. Animal Justice joins the Winnipeg Humane Society in calling for an end to tiedown events.

Terrorizing and harming animals violates animal protection laws, and doing so for frivolous entertainment purposes has no place in modern events. Take action to tell the organizers that Manitoba Stampede concerts, midway, concessions and parades already make it a great celebration—no cruelty required.
