Canada Has a Puppy Mill Crisis - Take Action

It’s a disgrace that puppy mills continue to exist today in Canada. At these facilities, mother dogs are kept in cages and forced to pump out litter after litter of puppies, without access to regular exercise, socialization, or veterinary care. Puppy mill busts across the country have highlighted the deplorable conditions that animals in puppy mills face, and the lax laws that allow these cruel operations to flourish. Learn more.

It’s time for governments to take control, and put rules and standards in place for dog breeding that would shut down puppy mills for good. Regulating and monitoring dog breeding is the only way to address this abusive industry, and reduce the burden on non-profits and rescues who have to step in and care for animals who suffer as a result of unchecked breeding.

Governments should require licenses, high standards of animal welfare, routine inspections, limits on the number of animals in facilities, an end to pet stores and online marketplaces selling dogs, robust record-keeping, and public education initiatives encouraging dog adoption.

Commercial dog breeding facilities are cruel and irresponsible. Sign the petition if you agree!
