Burnbrae Farms is Canada’s largest egg producer, and they’re abusing hens.
Instead of transitioning their farms to cage-free housing systems, Burnbrae is moving toward "enriched cages", or what they call "enriched colony housing". But don’t be fooled—enriched cages are still indoor wire cages that are barely distinguishable from a conventional battery cage.
In the US and Europe, companies are moving away from cages entirely, using cage-free housing systems that give hens enough space to walk around, dustbathe, and enjoy other natural behaviours.
What’s more, Burnbrae packaging misleads consumers. Their egg cartons use images of grassy, open fields, and confusing terms like “enriched colony housing”—which most people wrongly believe means cage-free.
Tell Burnbrae to stop caging hens, and transition its barns to 100% cage-free housing!
