URGENT: Doug Ford About to Issue New Permits for Penned Dog Hunting Bloodsport
Last year, Ontario bowed to hunting lobbyists and rammed through legislation to allow new dog hunting pens, decades after they were set to be phased out.
In penned dog hunts, hunters trap and confine sensitive coyotes, foxes, and rabbits inside large pens so they can be used as live bait. The hunters set dogs loose in the enclosures to track and chase the animals, who have no way to escape from the pen, and are often injured or killed by the dogs.
But it’s not just animals who are at risk. These hunts also threaten public health by allowing humans and dogs to be exposed to a deadly parasite that runs rampant in Ontario’s wild coyote and fox populations.
The Ontario government began to listen to common sense, and said behind closed doors it would no longer issue new licenses. But thanks to extremist hunting lobby pressure, they’ve changed course and have now opened up the application period for new licenses.
But it’s not too late—licenses haven’t been issued yet. Tell Premier Doug Ford NOT to issue new permits for dog hunting pens.
