Animals at Bervie Zoo in Kincardine, Ontario, are suffering in barren, filthy, and potentially unlawful conditions. New footage shows lions and tigers pacing in cramped cages, bears circling small, dirty pens with minimal enrichment, and other animals displaying concerning behaviours.
For the fourth year in a row, Animal Justice has filed a legal complaint with Ontario’s Animal Welfare Services, demanding urgent action to protect the animals at this roadside zoo. Boogie, a Japanese macaque monkey, has been repeatedly documented showing signs of psychological distress, such as pacing, spinning, and self-harm. We believe Boogie is still suffering at the zoo.
Despite multiple legal complaints, previous animal seizures, and charges against the zoo’s owner, Bervie Zoo remains open—and seems to be obtaining new animals. We’re calling on authorities to take immediate steps to help the animals trapped at Bervie Zoo and transfer them to reputable sanctuaries.
