Tell the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair to Cancel Cruel Calf Scramble

The Royal Manitoba Winter Fair is being held in Brandon, Manitoba from March 31-April 5, 2025. Unfortunately, the Fair brought back its “calf scramble” event that Animal Justice and Winnipeg Humane Society believe likely violates Manitoba’s animal cruelty law. The groups have the support of the Brandon Humane Society, which has operated in Brandon since 1946.

Though the Fair cancelled its scramble events following public backlash in 2022, they began holding them again last year, re-branding the calf scramble as a “barnyard challenge”. Organizers confirmed the barnyard challenge is nothing more than a calf scramble and footage of the event shows terrified calves running as teenagers and young adults chase and grab them in a loud arena.

These cruel and outdated spectacles should be cancelled immediately. Please take a moment to send an email to the organizers of the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair, encouraging them to get with the times and focus on family programming that teaches kindness and respect for all animals.
