Tell Canada to Ban Wildlife Poisons

Tell Canada to Ban Wildlife Poisons

Animal Justice, along with groups like WeHowl and Wolf Awareness, are calling on Health Canada to outlaw poisons used to kill wildlife in Canada. After years of advocacy, Canada banned the use of strychnine to kill wildlife in 2024, but Compound 1080 is still being used in Alberta to target coyotes, putting all wildlife at risk, including skunks, wolves, and black bears.

Compound 1080 causes extreme and prolonged suffering before killing its victims. Other animals, including endangered species or companion dogs, can scavenge on the bodies of poisoned victims, leading to yet more pain and death throughout the ecosystem. This is not a responsible or effective way to protect farmed animals from natural predators.

Polling shows that 69% of Canadians agree that the risks posed by the use of poisons like Compound 1080 to kill wildlife are unacceptable. Please take action now and tell Canada’s Health Minister to end the cruel and irresponsible poisoning of wildlife.
