End Calf Roping Cruelty at the Manitoba Stampede

End Calf Roping Cruelty at the Manitoba Stampede

The Manitoba Stampede is once again hosting dangerous rodeo events where animals risk injury and death—including calf roping.

In calf-roping events, terrified calves are chased, then lassoed and thrown to the ground, often sustaining injuries to the neck, limbs, and respiratory tract, or even dying. Tie-down calf roping is so cruel and dangerous that a recent government of Quebec report concluded that it cannot be done in a way that complies with provincial animal protection laws.

In 2024, the Manitoba Stampede rightly cancelled cruel “mutton bustin’” events, where children tackle and grab terrified sheep. Now it’s time for the Manitoba Stampede to end tie-down calf roping for good.

Manitoba Stampede concerts, midway, concessions, and parades already make it a great celebration—no cruelty required!
