In 2022, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) "temporarily" banned dogs from over 100 countries from being brought into Canada for adoption or rescue. More than three years later, there's no end in sight.
The list of countries affected by the ban includes those the CFIA considers to be at high risk for dog rabies—but rabies is 100% preventable with vaccinations. Canada was once a beacon of hope for dogs living on the streets and in shelters around the world—including in war-torn countries and in others where rescuers are saving animals from the meat trade.
Please join us in urging the CFIA to end its “temporary” dog import ban and adopt science-based rules that let responsible rescues resume safely.
