Tell Manitoba To Clamp Down on Irresponsible Animal Breeders

Tell Manitoba To Clamp Down on Irresponsible Animal Breeders

Manitoba recently passed Bill 19—an important step forward in protecting animals from irresponsible breeders and tackling the province’s dog overpopulation crisis. But the work is not done—strong regulations are needed to ensure the new law meaningfully protects dogs, cats, snakes, ferrets, and other animals from irresponsible breeders!

Manitoba’s dog overpopulation crisis is causing unimaginable suffering to dogs and puppies, particularly in remote northern communities without access to veterinary care. Irresponsible breeders contribute to the crisis. And it’s not only dogs and puppies who are suffering—Manitoba also has Canada’s largest ferret breeding mill. Despite footage showing horrific conditions and rampant animal suffering, the breeder continues to operate. Meanwhile, heartbreaking footage of Manitoba’s Reptile Breeders Expo shows many breeders displaying snakes, lizards, and tortoises in tiny plastic containers so tiny they could barely move.

Please take a moment to congratulate Manitoba on passing Bill 19 and urge the province to introduce strong regulations under the new law to protect animals and crack down on breeders.
