Shocking footage from Winnipeg’s Assiniboia Downs shows a jockey violently abusing a horse. The horse is grabbed by the throat, struck repeatedly in the face, and forced against a sharp wooden corner while trapped in a stall and foaming at the mouth.
The footage led to criminal animal cruelty charges, but the charges were stayed when the abuser entered into an agreement that explicitly allowed him to continue working with animals.
Racehorses are highly vulnerable to abuse behind closed doors in an industry that prioritizes gambling and entertainment over animals. Please urge the Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Authority of Manitoba to install cameras at the racetrack to prevent further beatings and abuse!
