ONLINE PANEL: Big Ag Front Groups, Disinformation, & Activist Repression
Date: Wednesday, June 10, 2026
Time: 7:00–8:30 PM ET
Via Zoom
Animal agriculture is one of the most powerful industries in Canada, and it’s increasingly using that power to protect itself at all costs. As more Canadians question how farmed animals are treated and demand change, Big Ag has gone far beyond lobbying. It’s now intent on controlling the narrative, spreading disinformation, and attacking the people pushing for change.
In this panel, you’ll get an essential primer on how the animal ag industry, aligned corporations, and government allies work to manage public perception and bury inconvenient truths about animal abuse on farms, block reforms through political and corporate influence, and marginalize (or even criminalize) animal advocacy.
We’ll examine:
• “Front groups” created to protect the industry’s image and manufacture public trust
• Disinformation, PR, and marketing tactics used to deflect responsibility and stall welfare reforms
• Ag gag laws, surveillance, and smear campaigns deployed to intimidate and silence animal advocates
• How these tactics have escalated over the past decade and threaten the future of animal advocacy.
Our panelists:
• PJ Nyman: Corporate Engagement Manager - Animal Justice
• Dr. Elizabeth Schoales: Independent Scholar
• Dr. Tayler Zavitz: Advocacy Programs Specialist - Animal Justice
Hosted by: Animal Justice’s Kimberly Carroll
If we want to keep making progress for animals, we need to understand what we’re up against and be prepared!
