A horse named Ice Cube was repeatedly struck in the head and had his mane yanked by a rodeo worker at the 2026 Calgary Stampede. This abuse occurred after the horse collapsed in a chute during a bronc riding event and remained on the ground for several minutes.
Every year at the Calgary Stampede, animals face abuse, terror, and often lose their lives. At least 110 animals have died in Stampede rodeo and chuckwagon events in the past 40 years.
These events force sensitive animals into chaotic, high-risk situations that all too often end in injury or death. While cruelty to animals is typically unlawful, the Alberta government recently changed its laws to give rodeo and chuckwagon racing a free pass from rules that would otherwise apply—leaving animals used in these events with even fewer legal safeguards against suffering.
Join us in calling on the Calgary Stampede to immediately drop all cruel rodeo and chuckwagon events—which the majority of Canadians now oppose. This cruelty and these preventable deaths must end.
