Navigating the Pain of Being an Animal Advocate

Navigating the Pain of Being an Animal Advocate

Wednesday, November 11, 2026
6:00-7:30 PM ET

Using our voices to advocate for animals is deeply meaningful. But stepping into this role also brings unique emotional challenges and pain—whether it's the distress of witnessing animals suffer, anger at widespread apathy, overwhelm from the million and one things you think you should be doing, or the loneliness of feeling misunderstood (sometimes even by your closest friends and family).

It’s imperative that we have ways to work through this pain, or we’re in danger of it deadening, paralyzing, or breaking us.

In this training, Animal Justice board member and Coach for Changemakers Kimberly Carroll will share tools to help you navigate the emotional toll of advocating for animals. You'll learn a different way of relating to pain and moving through it, so you can stay strong, compassionate, and effective in creating a better world for animals.

We'll explore:
• Practical, trauma-informed techniques for processing emotional pain
• Setting boundaries that protect your psychological well-being
• Cathartic tools every animal advocate should have in their toolkit
• Reducing the emotional impact of exposure to graphic imagery
• Using mindfulness and visualization to soothe and heal inner anguish

The goal is for you to leave this workshop with some immediate relief, along with resources to help support a long, effective, and rewarding path ahead in making a difference for animals.
